(What is this?)
Munie is the UK’s first online municipal vehicle
auction. Designed as a transparent way of disposing of surplus assets, Munie
will remove many of the uncertainties associated with the disposal and purchase
of used assets through traditional means.
To start buying and selling with Munie
simply click the signup button on the homepage and fill in your details. You
will then be given a user name and password you will need each time you login
to the site. It’s free to join and there are no membership fees!
Remember, you can navigate around the site
as a non-member but many of the features are available to members only. Once
you are logged in you can access all the features on the site.
To start selling:
To sell an item on Munie click on the
‘sell’ tab on the homepage. Pick the type of listing you require and the
duration of the auction then follow the instructions to list your item.
To keep costs down, unlike traditional
auctions and remarketing houses we charge a fixed rate listing fee rather than
working on a commission basis. For added security all payments are handled by
HSBC bank through their secure payment system.
If you choose the Premium listing option
you automatically get an independent inspection report for your vehicle carried
out by an engineer from the Freight Transport Association (FTA). Through the
listing process simply choose the type of inspection you require and the FTA
will contact you to make the necessary arrangements. You will then get a copy
of the report as a .pdf file which you can upload to your listing. The main
benefit of this is that it gives buyers the peace of mind that they are buying
a mechanically sound piece of equipment.
Once the auction starts simply sit back and
watch the bids come in. Once the item is sold the buyer will contact you to
arrange payment and collection.
If you would prefer to have the process
managed by Munie, for a negligible fee we can list the item for you and arrange
payment and collection on your behalf.
Either way, you remain in full control of
the process throughout the sale and can physically see what is happening to
your asset.
There are many benefits to disposing of
surplus assets through Munie. Firstly, with independent FTA inspections buyers
can be sure the item they are bidding on is in the condition stated. For
sellers, there are no costly collection charges you would associate with sending
vehicles to physical auctions, nor do you have to remove them from active
service - vehicles can be listed while still working. Finally, the greatest
benefit is that you get to control the whole process yourself so you can see
exactly what is happening at every point of the sale process.
To start buying:
Buying a vehicle or equipment from Munie is
designed to be a painless process. Once logged in you can search for specific
vehicle and equipment types through our vehicle finder. Once you find the item
you are looking for, the listing page should have all the information you need
to know about that item, including the current price and how long is left on
the auction. If the seller has chosen the Standard or Advanced listing you can
request an independent pre-bid inspection to be carried out on the item by a
Freight Transport Association (FTA) engineer, giving you peace of mind that the
item you are interested is in good working order. Simply click the ‘Apply PBI’
button and follow the instructions.
Once you have placed a bid on an item you
are legally bound to go ahead with the purchase if you are highest bidder at
the end of the auction. To place a bid you must fill in a pre-authorisation
which will take a £500 deposit from your credit card as a deposit. This is
designed to protect sellers from bogus or malicious bids. This amount is
refunded to your card once the auction ends.
If you are the winning bidder it is your
responsibility to contact the seller and arrange payment and collection with
them. In some cases this may be completed through Munie if we are handling the
sale on behalf of the seller.
